Dear Paul,
Found a few photos, all taken by me. Feel free to use, or not, on your site.
As I remember hearing the story of Michael and Diane meeting for the first time, sometime in the 60’s,in NY: Michael went over to her place, a
cold water flat with no telephone so he just knocked on the door. They talked of many things & discovered their mutual love of the romantic poets
of the 19th century, they ate, they talked through the night, and realizing it was dawn they ran to the river to watch the sun rise...
Here’s what Diane wrote the night after Michael perished (copied from the email in which Sheppard sent it to me):
we ran to the East
River in the dawn
holding hands
and shouting Shelley to the stars
